Looking at the discussions going on in all channels, it will probably take a while before we agree what to do with the Sybil problem.
Meanwhile every single week those wallets earn a big chunck of B3TR which gives them more power to take control of the governance. Or they simply dump it on exchanges making the B3TR price suffer since it still has low liquidity due to the ecosystem just getting started.
I am interested to hear how everyone is feeling about temporary removing, or lowering the voting rewards, removing the incentive to perform a Sybil attack and lowering the impact, buying us time to align on how to move forward.
One thing to consider is that this might impact the total number of votes and thus the allocation the dApps will receive, hindering their growth.
Needs to be done. We are accused of only being in this for a quick buck, yet I say pause voting rewards.
If its just lowered, the cheaters can still claim more than everyone else. If its gone entirely temporarily, they wont vote unless they’re bored, but at least they won’t be able to be accumulate more voting power.
During that pause time, we can earn B3TR through doing actual sustainable actions. While small this will reduce the power gap between us and the cheaters. This also affords the foundation all the time in the world to find a solution without further (rational) criticism.
Would be possibile to stop or lower the rewards but at the same time register/ keep tracks of who still continue to vote, to give them the missing rewards after the problem will be solved?
This could be a great incentive for people that continue to vote and also useful for VeDelegate.
While do-able, it wont fix this issue I am afraid, everyone will just continue to use scripts/bots since they know they will receive rewards for voting at a later stage?
A sacrifice must be made here, a total pause has to be the way. Allowing this to continue further with no measures taken after what has been discussed is pure negligence.
Please can someone from the foundation respond to this. You wanted us here.
We need to keep in mind that this kind of sacrifice for the users costs zero, while for the dapps creators and for the VebetterDAO foundation costs money.
I think that would be better to find a more functional solution that does not risk to arm economically anyone.
