Executive Summary

Imagine buying a vintage jacket and getting rewarded for helping the planet.

ReUse is a mobile app on VeChain that tackles the environmental impact of fast fashion by incentivizing sustainable consumer behavior. The app encourages secondhand shopping by verifying purchases and rewarding users with B3TR tokens, all securely recorded on the blockchain.

ReUse supports a circular economy of reducing waste, conserving resources, and promoting responsible consumption. Verified secondhand purchases become traceable acts of climate-positive behavior, turning everyday shopping into meaningful impact.

Project Overview

Problem

The fashion industry causes:

  • 10% of global carbon emissions
  • Excessive textile waste and water use

Challenges in the secondhand market include:

  • Limited incentives for consumers to choose secondhand
  • Lack of verifiable environmental impact metrics
  • No unified reward system
  • Absence of transparent tracking

Solution

How it Works:

  1. Shop secondhand (local stores or apps like Vinted)
  2. Verify your purchase (upload receipt + photo)
  3. Earn B3TR tokens
  4. Track your impact (waste saved, CO₂ reduced)
  5. Use tokens on VeBetterDAO or vote with VOT3

ReUse-to-Earn:

Higher spend = more rewards
Verified stores = bonus multipliers (future feature)
Frequent users = loyalty bonuses

ReUse simplifies sustainable living by gamifying secondhand shopping. Users can directly see the positive environmental effects of their purchases, while supporting local businesses and helping build greener communities.

Impact Metrics (tracked per user):

  • Waste reduction (kg)
  • Carbon saved (CO₂e)
  • Water conserved (liters)
  • Local economic support
  • Behavioral change

Value to VeBetterDAO

DApp Owner Remarks

If ReUse’s mission inspires you, we’re open to support and collaboration of any kind. Whether you’re technical, a content creator, or bring other skills, we’d gladly welcome your interest. Your contribution could truly make a difference.

Foundation Remarks

We’re excited to see the ReUse team bring a fresh, sustainability-driven use case to the VeBetterDAO ecosystem. Their Reuse-to-Earn model taps into the growing secondhand fashion movement while effectively showcasing how blockchain can incentivize real-world environmental action. Beyond the product itself, the team has shown genuine initiative — applying for a creator NFT, engaging early with the VeFam, and participating in community conversations not just to promote their project, but to contribute meaningfully to the ecosystem. Their enthusiasm, commitment, and community-first mindset make them a strong fit for the values of VBD, and we look forward to supporting ReUse as they continue building both a valuable tool and a vibrant presence in the network.

We Want Your Feedback

This post is a preview of our full grant proposal, and we’d love your input before final submission. Share your thoughts:

  • What parts of the project do you find most valuable?
  • Are there features you’d like to see added or adjusted?
  • Do the proposed timelines and milestones seem realistic?

Your feedback will help shape the final version of this proposal. If this vision resonates with you, we hope you’ll support ReUse during the upcoming VeBetterDAO grant vote.

Hey! Thank you so much for considering our Grant Proposal! We really appreciate the time and effort you put into our future plans of ReUse and its own story.

Here’s our take on the questions:

1. What parts of the project do you find most valuable?
For us, the most valuable aspect of ReUse is the realistic AI detection based on the nominal value of second-hand purchases. The idea is simple but powerful: the more you invest in second-hand items (clothes, etc.), the more significant your B3TR token rewards will be. This creates a real-world incentive loop tied to sustainable behavior.

Also, unlike many other dApps, ReUse implements a three-step account verification system. We’re really serious about keeping bots and farmers out of the ecosystem. We use Telegram-based verification and AI validation to send entries for manual review, not for instant rewards — meaning all gamified actions are traceable, fair, and human-centered.

As a future addition, we’re also working on ThumbmarkJS and geolocation-based detection to accommodate users who don’t have access to digital receipts — so inclusivity is a key focus as well.

2. Are there features you’d like to see added or adjusted?
Definitely! We’re already planning to launch a seller dashboard for local thrift businesses, and a visually stunning impact page to show users and sellers the difference they’re making through ReUse.

We want ReUse to become the #1 go-to app for sustainable second-hand shopping, and we don’t want to stop at just clothes. We plan to expand into bags, shoes, and other everyday items too. And again, the geolocation feature will help make the app accessible even for offline second-hand purchases.

3. Do the proposed timelines and milestones seem realistic?
Absolutely. We’ve already put in a ton of time, effort, and funding into building ReUse — from research to dev, design, and early testing. We’ve self-funded most of this so far, and we’re now in a strong position to scale further.

To support growth, we’re bringing in three new developers to speed up delivery and refine the product even more. So yeah, the timeline isn’t just doable — it’s grounded in real momentum we’ve already built.

We’re super excited about this project and what it could mean for circular fashion, sustainability, and community-driven change.
If any part of this vision clicks with you, we’d love your support — and we’re always open to ideas or feedback.

Hi.

I just want to start by saying; what a fantastic initiative. This is a clever way to have a greater impact, and further incentivize people into buying second-hand items.

To the one question that immediately comes to mind:

How do you solve verification of purchases through other apps? Does the user simply;

  • Make the purchase
  • Screenshot «receipt» or bank transfer, then summarily post it to Telegram/in app?
  • Does the item also need to be taken a pic of?

The verification process here can quickly get complicated, which gatekeeps new users.
KISS has always been my mantra when it comes to dealing with the multitudes.

VeBetterDAO allready has, imo, an issue with being spread out on too many platforms for verification. We’re active users as a household, but e.g a few of the dApps will never see activity from me at least, because I simply cba to register to anymore social platforms.

Like I said, I think the idea is fantastic, and I’ll definitely use this when/if it launches, but keeping it simple is key. If I’m being too forward, I apologize in advance.

Hey, really appreciate your thoughtful question and your kind words about ReUse. We’re super glad you see the potential here.

To answer your question. Right now, the process is pretty straightforward. You buy second hand clothes, snap a photo of your receipt, and then snap a photo of the actual item you bought. That’s it. Clean and simple.

Currently, we only support submissions that include receipts. But we know not every thrift shop comes with a fancy POS system. That’s why we’re building a geolocation based system for offline sellers. So even if someone buys from a roadside stand or a small home based shop, they’ll still be able to participate.

In that case, users can send us a photo of the seller and the clothes available at the shop, along with a photo of the item they actually bought. Add any kind of payment proof if possible. This type of submission will go through manual review instead of AI. We want to make sure it stays fair and accessible.

Also, the higher the amount spent, the bigger the B3TR reward. Buy more, earn more. Save more clothes, save the planet, earn some tokens. Win win solution.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. Feedback like this helps us build something better for everyone.
